Out of Town

Travis O'Grady
In 1979, he is a 20-something "Ambrose: Trucking & Haulage" truck driver from Owl Creek, Alabama (or so his truck says). Even before his encounter with Alessa, he had a past with the town of Silent Hill. When Travis was a child (probably 7, just like Alessa), his mother Helen, believing her song to be a "devil child" (informed by people in the 'mirror world' - this could be Travis' potential to become "The Butcher"), attempted to kill her son, but failed and was committed to Brookhaven in 1960. While staying in the hospital, she was banned from seeing her son (and Travis was kept ignorant of his mother's condition, his father making him believe she was dead) and lashes out at Travis' father when he visits, demanding to see Travis. Later on, his father brings him to the town's Riverside Motel and hangs himself, distraught over his wife's insanity. Travis blocks this memory, fabricating memories to make himself believe his father was alive. The truth plagues his dreams though, making it hard for him to sleep.

Some 19 years after he was made an orphan, Travis unknowning returns to Silent Hill while on a routine delivery. He takes a short cut by Silent Hill to get to Brahm rest and grab a cup of coffee. Travis stops when he sees a cloaked person in the road, getting out to check on them, he finds them gone. Going back to his truck, he's startled by the ghostly body of 7-year-old Alessa, escaping her burning body. This encounter causes him to have a flashback of the repressed memory of his father's funeral, smoke rolling in behind him. Alessa appears again in front of him, but rushes off through the woods. He runs after her, persuing her all the way to the Gillespie house. The house has been engulfed in flames, the smoke covering the area like a thick fog. He sees a woman roaming the yard, but is distracted from speaking to her when he hears screams from inside the burning home. He wastes no time going in to try and save whoever is in the house. He discovers a little girl (Alessa) has been trapped inside and carries her out onto the front lawn. Having enhaled so much smoke from inside, Travis collapses, the airraid siren playing loud over the town.

When he comes to, he finds himself on a bench inside Silent Hill (in the first layer of Alternate Silent Hill). Worried about the condition of the girl he rescued, Travis immediately goes to Alchemilla Hospital. There he runs into Michael Kaufmann, who he asks about the girl. Kaufman denies there being any such patient and leaves Travis confused and alone. Not satisfied, he searches the hospital, eventually finding a room with a large mirror reflecting the world around him as it would be if he were in the raw and rusted half of Alternate Silent Hill. The girl he rescued appears beside him in the reflection and touches the glass, beaconing him to do the same. When he does, Travis is brought fully into Alternate Silent Hill, fighting the monsters plaguing his psyche. From here, Travis begins to discover his past through the pieces of the Flauros.

While following the path laid out for him by Alessa, he runs into Lisa Garland who reveals the girl's name and tells him she's dead. She leaves the hospital for the town's Cedar Grove Sanitarium to meet up with Kaufmann, and he follows suite. There he meets Dahlia, who reveals that the house and the girl he saved was hers. Furious, he demands to know why she wouldn't save her own daughter - but she wanders off, ignoring him. With the reveal of Alessa's mother, he discovers the files that lead to the truth about his own. This leads him to fight a monster in the image of his mother, Alessa appearing before him again. Confused and frustrated, he demands the girl to tell him why she's doing this to him before he passes out.

Waking up again, Travis heads for the Artaud Theatre. There he meets with Lisa again and fights with yet another monster. This prompts another visit form Alessa and another black out. Upon waking he finds clues that leads him to the Riverside Motel where the repressed memory of his father's suicide resurfaces and he fights a monster resembling his father. Again Alessa appears to him, but he passes out before getting any sort of answer. Waking again, he finds himself in Alchemilla Hospital yet again, but with Alessa. It's here that he finds the last peice of the Flauros, which, now fully formed, causes Alessa's ghostly presence to solidify. Going to leave hospital, she opens the door for him and vanishes.

Outside, he's threatened by Dahlia who tells him he has interfered with the birth of the town's god. This prompts Alessa to appear and use her powers to bring the entire town back into it's Alternate side. While trying to escape the transformation, Travis finds a map drawn by Alessa which leads him to the Order's church and into the ritual room. When he arrives he finds the burnt, physical body of Alessa surrounded by cloaked and masked Order members. Dr. Kaufmann appears and incapacitates Travis with a pressurized drug that knocks him out. He dreams of a monster waiting for him just along the outter ring of the Halo of the Sun. Defeating the monster (possibly Travis' version of the town's god?), he seals it in the Flauros and the device opens in the Alternate to save Alessa, giving her the power to create Cheryl.

Travis escapes Silent Hill, returning to his truck. With the truth back in his life, Travis appears happier as he goes to leave the town and Alessa behind, but before he leaves he sees a content Alessa carrying baby Cheryl on the side of the road and smiles, resetting his mile gage for a new start. At present, he still trucks. He even drove Soldier Alex Shepherd to Shepherd's Glen while on route.

Harrold "Harry" Mason - Tarot Card: "The Hermit". For Harry, miracles have been a double edged sword most of his life. Blessed with being an established writer (and a fan of spy novels) and married to a kind and beautiful woman - he and his wife found that they were unable to have children. Yet, in 1979, while driving past the town of Silent Hill, Harry and his wife came upon an abandoned baby, the other half of Alessa. The baby girl was welcomed into the Mason home with open arms, the two adopting her and naming her Cheryl. For four years Harry and his wife had the family they always wanted - until Mrs. Mason fell ill and died. Grief stricken, Harry devoted his life to his adopted daughter and the two's father-daughter bond grew stonger.

For three years they were inseperable - until Cheryl turned seven in 1986. Wanting to take a long vacation with her, Harry (32) let her choose the place. She suggested Silent Hill and showed him the brochure for the lake resort town. Agreeing, the two took his jeep all the way to the town. When they reached the same road Harry and his wife had found Cheryl on, Harry is startled by the sudden appearance of Alessa's apparation. Swerving wildly, he wrecks the jeep and is knocked unconcious. Waking, he discovers Cheryl has gone missing and begins his desperate search for his daughter. Searching the town of Silent Hill, he meets up with Officer Cybil Bennett, Nurse Lisa Garland, Dr. Michael Kauffman, and the cult leader, Dahlia Gallespie

When Alessa and Cheryl combined the soul of the Incubus to birth it, Harry killed Dahlia's vision of 'God', and the still seperate spirits of Alessa and Cheryl combined themselves to create a baby, which Alessa gave to Harry for safe keeping.

After escaping the town, he adopted the baby girl, naming her Cheryl in rememberance of his lost daughter. He moved to Portland, Maine and suffered from his own suspicion of the true intent of the child, but within time, he grew as close to her as he had with the first Cheryl. Five years later, a member of the The Order showed up at their home looking for Cheryl (5). Protecting the girl from her would be kidnapper, Harry shot and killed the cultist and was later charged for it. When the court saw the killing as self defense, all charges were dropped, and both Harry and Cheryl took up aliases so no other cultists could find them. After the name change, the two moved to a town close to Silent Hill and began again in the Daisy Villa Apartments (Apt #102).

In 2003, eleven years later, while his daughter was at the mall for the day, another Cult member, Claudia, found him and ordered one of the cult missionaries (the same that took the form of a Mercenary Monster) to kill him. His only goodbye to his daughter was a letter telling her about what happened seventeen years ago.

Creator's comment: When development first began on this project, because of his role as the doting, dutiful father he was given the name "Humbert Mason," which was referenced from the protagonist of Stanley Kubrick's film Lolita. However since this is such an uncommon name, it was changed by the English staff. The truth is that "Harry" was the nickname of the person who named the character. I thought, "they're the same," but...

Mrs. Mason
She was Harry Mason's wife and Cheryl's adopted mother. She fell ill and died four years after they adopted the little girl.

The Orosco Family
Name Meaning: Orosco (Greek, "he who lives in the mountains")
Thomas, 39 year old lumberjack, his wife and two children, a son and daughter Angela make up the Orosco family. Every since she was little, Thomas molested, raped, and beat his daughter without his wife knowing until a little after her high school graduation. After Angela attempted to run away, his wife discovered their secret and told her daughter she deserved everything that happened to her. Soon after, Angela stabbed her father with a kitchen knife. It appears that the Orosco son was not treated at all like his sister.

Angela Orosco
Name Meaning: Angela ("angel" and "messenger")
She is the 19 year old daughter of Thomas Orosco. Eversince she was very young, her father molested, raped, and beat her, leaving her mentally scarred. After graduating from High School, she ranaway, but her father and brother dragged her back home. When her mother found out she had been abused and violated, she told her she deserved it. Her father continued to rape her until one day in 1994, at around midnight, Angela took up a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the neck and left side of his chest. When she was charged with murder, the courts saw it as a "crime of passion" and could find no proof that could incriminate Angela.

Not long after, a mentally unstable Angela (now beginning to see fire everywhere), having been turned out by her mother or runaway on her own, comes to Silent Hill believing her mother to have disappeared there. Looking for her in Silent Hill's Lakeside Cemetary, she runs into James who she warns that the town is acting funny. She goes searching for her mother in the Blue Creek Apartments, and begins to feel guilty about killing her father and considers killing herself with the same knife she used to kill him. After facing her rape inside the underground prison of Silent Hill, Angela lets the fires that she's been invisioning consume her as she walks up the stairs of the alternate Lakeview Hotel Building (that burned down years before). Weather this actually killed her or trapped her in the Alternate Silent Hill is still a mystery.

Creator's comment: Her name is borrowed from the protagonist of the film, "The Net." It's also a religious name common in Spanish lineage that is derived from "angel," which was a source of inspiration as well. From the article in the bloodstained newspaper, the conclusion can be made that Angela was abused and that she took her father's life. After this incident, being in a state of emotional turmoil, it may be that Silent Hill called out to her.

Eddie Dombrouski
He is 23 year old part time gas station employee. He was ridiculed by people in his old town because of his weight. When his anger and frustration climaxed, he killed a dog in a fit of rage and then shot the dog's owner in the leg (the towns high school football star- it ruined his knee and he couldn't play anymore). Running away from the police, he begins to feel guilty just before he reaches Silent Hill. After he meets James, he has annother episode and tries to kill him, but James kills him out of self-defense.

Creator's comment: In the initial stages of the scenario, Eddie was actually a very cheerful character. Therefore, the name was borrowed from Eddie Murphy. In the end however, we changed his personality completely. According to one of Eddie's monologues, his anger and frustration at the way he was treated by others reached a climax when he killed a dog in a fit of rage and also shot the dog's owner in the leg. While running from the police, he began to have feelings of guilt, and it may be that Silent Hill called out to him.

His whereabouts or weather he took Cheryl in are still a mystery.

Creator's comment: His name comes from a famous actor from the 1920s, Douglas Fairbanks. Simply put, this name just seemed to suit him. There is no real connection to his namesake. Actors such as Ian Holm and Giancarlo Giannini were his models.
