Timeline 1500's - Indians of the Algonquian nation make this area of Maine home, and consider the lake area to be sacred ground. The tribe conducted mysterious rituals there, calling it the The Place of the Silenced Spirits. One landmark remains: two bolders (outside of the Hope House) that the tribe carved circles into, to communicate with their dead ancestors, calling it Nahkeehona (the Order now calls it "Mother Stone", and uses it to speak with the dead). 1621 - First Thanksgiving Late 1600's - English settlers travel to the grounds and build a town (naming it a name other than Silent Hill). Folklore of the land's history begins spreading around the town and eventually a group of pilgrims start a religious cult called "The Order". 1692 - January: Salem Witch Trials begin in Massachusetts - Jennifer Carroll, one of the Order's founding members, is accused of witchcraft by the Puritan followers of the town and burned at the stake. She is made a saint by the Order. - The Order moves out of the public eye, moving underground - October: Salem Witch Trials end. 1721 - A mysterious Smallpox epidemic breaks out, and the town is abandoned 1754-1763 - French and Indian War 1775-1785 - Revolutionary War 1776 - The United States declares independence. 1812 (June 18)-1815 - War of 1812 1810 - Resettling of the town as a penal colony begins and many people lose their lives. It was that colony that named it "Silent Hill". Brookhaven Hospital is constructed when once more, the threat of a plague steadily wraps the town in darkness. The town was stricken by a Cholera epidemic. It may be that because of the unforeseen deaths of the town's population, as well as the thoughts and feelings of the prisoners, the original power that the town held was gradually distorted. The current incarnation of Brookhaven Hospital has existed since it became large-scale in the late 1800s. 1820 - Maine becomes a state. Allen Smith paints "Waterfront Landscape". 1830 - The beginning of the forced removal policy for Native Americans. 1840 - Silent Hill Prison closes. After the closing of the prison, the Historical Society was built on its former site. 1846-1848 - Mexican-American War 1850 - A coal field is discovered and Wiltse coal mine opens, which leads to the activation of the town. 1858 - The Bartlett, Fitch, Holloway, and Shepherd families breakaway from the The Order to form Shepherd's Glen, but are only able to do so through a pact, which has them sacrificing one child from each of the four families every 50 years. 1861-1865 - The American Civil War begins. 1862 - Toluca prison camp is constructed for POWs. 1866 - The town's prison camp used in the Civil War is converted into Toluca Prison. 1890 - End of Native Americans' organized resistance. At this time people everywhere in the town mysteriously disappear one after the other. 1898 - April 12-August 9th, the Spanish-American War early 1900s - Toluca Prison closes and Silent Hill becomes a sight-seeing area. 1908 - The Bartlett, Fitch, Holloway, and Shepherd families of Shepherd's Glen honor the pact with The Order and sacrifice one child from each of the four families. 1914 (August)-1918 (November 11th) - World War I 1918 - On Lake Toluca, the Little Baroness, carrying tourists, disappears in the middle of the lake. No survivors were found and the cause of the accident is still unknown. 1929 - Great Depression begins 1936 - Michael Kauffman is born. 1939 - Strange events take place at Toluca Lake. Around Lake Toluca, rumors surface about strange occurances and skeletal hands seen reaching up towards the sky at the bottom of the lake. After becoming a sightseeing area, a series of misfortunes befall the town. With the closing of Wiltse coal mine came the attempted reinvention of the town as a tourist attraction. However, due to a succession of boating accidents the town gained a poor reputation as a sightseeing area. The famous Toluca Lake is a place of powerful emotions. It is known as an ominous lake that has become completely shrouded in a pervasive mist. - September 1: World War II begins. 1940 - Dahlia Gallespie is born - Great Depression ends 1945 - September 2: World War II ends. - April 12: Harry Truman is elected president 1947 - Cold War begins 1950 - June 25: Korean War begins 1953 - July 27: Korean War ends 1954 - Harry Mason is born 1957 - Vietnam War begins. 1958 - The Bartlett, Fitch, Holloway, and Shepherd families of Shepherd's Glen honor the pact with The Order and sacrifice one child from each of the four families. 1963 - Lisa Garland is born. 1964 - South Ashfield Heights is built. 1966 - The staff of a company that was working on developing the town as a sightseeing area die mysteriously one after the other. 1968 - Maria and Mary are born 1972 Dahlia Gallespie (32) becomes pregnant (by Kauffman (33) supposedly) with Alessa. The ritual to impregnate the cult's god within the baby is performed. 9 months later, Alessa Gallespie is born. 1973 - Walter Sullivan is born. 1974 - Claudia Wolf is born. 1975 - October * 1: Walter begins to keep a journal. * 2-5: Walter begins to play with another Orphan in the Hope House named Bob. Whenever Walter goes too far and Bob beats him up. After the fourth day, Walter hates him and wishes Bob were dead. * 6-14: Walter worries about having to stay in the Hope House's round water prison (like his friends John and Bob) if he doesn't read the Order's Book well. * 15: Walter's friend, Bob, dies in the Water Prison. Walter believes Andrew, the prison guard, killed him. * 16- 17: Dahlia (35) visits the Hope House and tells Walter that his mother is really asleep in Ashfield and he must perform the 21 Sacraments to reawaken her. In truth, she's using him as a "Plan B" to resurrect the Order's god in case Alessa fails. * 18-27: Walter has to stay in the Water Prison for penance, only allowed to come out on Sundays so he may read from the Order's Book and recite "The 21 Sacraments for the Descent of the Holy Mother". * 28: Walter visits Ashfield for the first time. 1976 - February 10: Walter visits Ashfield and is scared when a group of girls on the subway make fun of him. He is beat again. - March 17: Walter visits Ashfield and finds that a 'scary guy' has moved into the apartment he believes is his mother. 1977 - September: Alessa (5) begins attending Kindergarten at Midwich Elementary. - Vincent is born. 1978 - September: Alessa (6) begins attending 1st grade at Midwich Elementary. 1979 - September: Alessa (7) begins attending 2nd grade at Midwich Elementary. She has a hard time because of her emerging powers. - Events of The Silent Hill: Cage of Cradle take place. – Dahlia (39) locks Alessa inside her room in the Gallespie house, and sets the it on fire in order to purify her daughter and release the cult's god. Kept alive by the god within her, Alessa is able to split herself and the god into two and rescue herself from giving birth to the god by setting the baby half on the side of the road. Alessa recieves third degree burns and six houses in Old Silent Hill's business district are burned down. She is place in St. Alchemilla Hospital and later moved to its basement by order of Dr. Kauffman and the rest of Order. The baby is found by Harry Mason and his wife on the side of the highway. - Heather Mason and his wife adopt the baby and name her Cheryl. - Alessa is placed under the care of Lisa Garland. 1980-1981 - The mayor of Silent Hill dies suddenly along with Officer Gucci. 1982 - Ms. Mason, Harry's wife and Cheryl's adopted mother, dies. 1983 - Laura is born. 1985 - Walter is 16yrs old and meets a young Eileen Galvin and her mother. Eileen gives him her doll which he keeps with him at all times. 1986 – Alessa is fourteen and still residing in St. Alchemilla, being taken care of by Nurse Lisa Garland. Kaufman kills Lisa, but she is ressurrected to take care of Alessa. Harry and Cheryl return to Silent Hill and the first game takes place, afterward, Harry takes the baby of Alessa and Cheryl to Portland, Maine and names her Cheryl. - Alex Shepherd is born in Shepherd's Glen 1987 - The Order begins to suffer a period of inactivity. 1988 - 15 year old Walter meets Cynthia Velasquez (13). 1989 - February 15: Soviet War (Afghanistan) ends 1991 - 19 year old Walter begins to distance himself from The Order and moves to Pleasant River to live. He attends school. – In Portland, a Cult member confronts Harry while looking for Cheryl (5). Harry shoots the Cult member and he is tried for murder. Winning out of self defese, Harry and Cherly legally take up aliases. Cheryl became "Heather" and her black hair was dyed blond. They move to the Daisy Villa Apartments (Room #102) in a neighboring town of Silent Hill. - Ernest Baldwin's seven year old daughter, Amy, falls from from the attic of their family mansion in Silent Hill. 1993 - The story from Silent Hill: The Arcade takes place 1991 - Joseph's article about the Hope House is published, shocking many. - Walter Sullivan (24) begins commits 10 murders for the Holy Assumption. On the 9th of the month, he killed Jimmy Stone, the 10th: Bobby Randolph, 11th: Sean Martin, 12th: Steve Garland, 13th: George Rosten, 14th: William Gregory, 15th: Billy and Miriam Locane, 16th: Rick Albert, 17th: Eric Walsh. On the 18th: He keeps seeing the "Red Devil" (either Valtiel itself or Jimmy Stone) and is later arrested for the murder of Billy and Miriam Locane. On the 22nd: He commits suicide in Prision. - Maria is a successful 25 year old dancer at Heaven's Night in Silent Hill. - One Week: Laura turns 8-years old. Since Mary was returning home to visit James Sunderland, her husband, she leaves a birthday letter with their nurse Rachel. A few days after Laura's birthday, James suffocates Mary, killing her. He makes up the story that she died of her illness three years ago to trick himself into believing he didn't kill her. That day, Laura, worried about Mary, steals the birthday letter from Nurse Rachel and runs away to Silent Hill to look for Mary. James finds a letter from Mary after her death, and with his denying mind, believes she's still alive and waiting for him in Silent Hill. James returns to Silent Hill to find her. - Next Week: James Sunderland returns to Silent Hill and remembers that he suppressed the memories of killing his wife Mary. Weather he died or disappeared is still unsolved, some believe he died since his father mentions that his son and his son's wife disappeared. Angela Orosco goes to Silent Hill searching for her family, when she remembers that she suppressed the memories of killing her father she burns herself alive. Eddie Dombrouski runs away from his town after killing several people for making fun of him. When he attacks James in a meat locker, he's shot and killed. Laura returns to Silent Hill in hopes of finding Mary Sunderland. When she finds out that James killed her, she runs away. Her whereabouts are unknown. - Walter's spirit unbury's his own body and carry's it to Ashfield Heights Apartments, where he placed his body in the wall of apartment 302. A few days later those who lived at the apartments complained about strange noises coming from the window of the room. 1994 - Jasper Gein and his friends Peter and Sean sneak onto the Pleasant River University to investigate Claudia Wolf (20), who rumors say studied in the Order's church in Silent Hill. Sean was found strangled on campus. 1996 - Vincent becomes Priest of the Order, restructuring the religion and bringing money into the organization. The Order's numbers begin to grow. Claudia begins learning from him. 2000 - April 4 - August 8th: Josepeh Schreiber - Walter Sullivan returns to South Ashfield Heights Apartments with his body. 2001 January: *?: Six months after Joseph's death, Henry Townsend moves to South Ashfield and into the South Ashfield Heights Apartments. 2003 – Autumn: Silent Hill 3 takes place. Heather Mason (17) wakes up in the mall and meets Detective Douglas Cartland. Harry Mason (49) is murdered by a cult missionary working for Claudia Wolf. The next day Father Vincent (26/27) is stabbed (and possible killed) by Claudia Wolf. Claudia Wolf swallows the god fetus and becomes a form of the cult's god that she believes in. Heather destroys it and returns to being Cheryl. 2004 - Henry Townshend wake up in his apartment after being locked in his room for five days. 2008 - Travis Grady is still trucking in the New England area. - The Bartlett, Fitch, and Holloway families of Shepherd's Glen honor the pact with The Order and sacrifice one child from each of the four families, but the Shepherd family is unable to because of the death of Josh Shepherd. The Order begins to kidnap children for sacrifice. - Alex Shepherd returns to Shepherd's Glen and the events of Silent Hill 5 occur. |
